This morning at exactly 9AM I went to go pick up Proximo from the 204 Animal Hospital! He was neutered yesterday afternoon and was held there overnight. He's pretty moody right now, I'm letting the poor baby rest. He absolutely hates his cone of shame. :(
I took him in Tuesday morning around 7:45AM. He didn't eat or drink water the night before so he was thuper grumpy. He was howling like an un-trained husky and then he growled at one of the employee's while she was trying to take off his leash & collar. Honestly, Proximo was trained hard since the first day he came home with us (7 weeks old). He's a good dog, he just gets moody and grouchy when he's not fed or drank water for over 12 hours :/ The employee lady told me that we should have Proximo special obedience training and gave me a flyer. I got in my car and texted my hubby about this. Hubby doesn't believe Proximo needs training. We've attended PetSmart puppy training classes plus my hubby's been a dog owner since he was young. It's just that one time. One time he was in a bad mood because mommy & daddy didn't feed him or gave him any water for surgery. No big deal.
I paid over $340 dollars for dew claw (1 of the claws were hanging loosely so that needed to be removed), surgery, neuter inguinal... They also cleaned his ears & trimmed his nails. Unfortunately, when he stayed over-night they didn't cone him. Which didn't make sense to me because now his stuff is bruised and nasty looking for licking himself. Plus he has a bandaged leg from the dewclaw so... Why didn't they just cone him? *sigh* Proximo hates his cone.
When I was walking him back to my car I couldn't stop laughing. I feel so bad. He would hang his head low because of how he feels (sad, ashamed, pain, who knows) and the cone would drag on the ground then would get stuck! Poor little man! An oversized lamp around his neck is just so sad but so funny at the same time. Once we got home he ate all his food (Science Diet) and drank 2 full bowls of water. WOW! He's fine, no worries. He's gotten used to the cone so now he walks around with his head up high. We took a walk around the neighborhood (I followed where ever he went) and he was happy. Put his mood back to happy mode. I'm sure he'll feel much better tomorrow or the following day. :) I love my baby boy!
Oh, the reason why we neutered him is because we signed a contract with the breeder who sold us Proximo. She is an AKC breeder up in Grayson, GA for 11 years? We were supposed to neuter him by 7 months. Clearly he's not 7 months now, he's almost 10 months. We waited for his other ball to drop as long as we could, just because it would cost us so much more. We waited far long enough and just went on ahead. There's already so many dogs in this world, I wouldn't want to add any more.
One day I would love to rescue a dog. But for now, with the constant moving... 1 is enough.
